A Silent and Live Auction of Art, Antiques and Collectibles to support the Annapolis ESOL/NHS Scholarship Fund
Event Date: Thursday, September 20, 2018
Event Time: 6:00 – 8:30
Location: The Byzantium on Riva Road (The Greek Church)
Delicious food, desserts, wine and beer. Beautiful classic jazz from the award winning Tom Lagana Duo. A silent and live auction, raffle, and good company supporting a great cause.
There are currently 400 students in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) program of Annapolis High School, with a growing number of students graduating each year and eligible to pursue a college education. Of the many obstacles to higher education, money looms large for immigrants who are frequently first in their families to believe in the possibility of attending college. We are hoping this scholarship fund will help open the door to a higher education for those who are clearly qualified and may have thought the opportunity would be well beyond their reach.
Through a generous donation, this high quality and unique collection of art, furniture and antiques from South America, the Caribbean, and Maryland is being made available for the sole purpose of supporting this important scholarship. Many of the paintings, sculptures and collectibles have been professionally appraised and the documents will be available at the event.
In addition to the art and antiques, local restaurants and activities have kindly donated gift cards of between $50 and $400 which will be available to bid on or win in the raffle. We have received support from Vin909, Carol's Creek, Blackwall Hitch, Moe's Southwest Grill, Carpaccios, Luna Blu, among others and a wonderful personal training package from Fitness Together which will be useful if you win one of the fantastic dining cards.
The Annapolis ESOL/National Honor Society Annual Scholarship was established to encourage ESOL International Academy students at Annapolis High School to pursue studies at Anne Arundel Community College. ESOL faculty, students and the Annapolis High School Chapter of NHS participated in the initial funding and hope that the scholarship will assist students on their path to a bright future.
